Christopher González
Christopher González is the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Endowed Chair in the Humanities and Professor of English at SMU, where he also is Chair of the English Department. A scholar of Latinx literature, narrative theory, and multiethnic American storytelling, his research examines how marginalized voices engage with form, genre, and cultural history. He is President of MELUS and author of Big Scary Brown Guy: A Memoir, Permissible Narratives, Reading Junot Díaz, and co-editor of Graphic Borders. His forthcoming work explores Latinx speculative cinema, cognitive narratology, and McCarthy’s borderlands fiction. His upcoming book, Gatecrashers: How DEI Movements Saved the American Canon, defends inclusivity in literary studies. As director of SMU’s Narrative Now Initiative and co-founder of Project Poëtica, he champions public humanities. A frequent podcast guest and public speaker, González is also dedicated to expanding career pathways for PhD students. When not writing or leading, he’s dreaming of Tuscany or moderating literary conversations.
