Yokochi Bare
Introducing Yokochi Bare, the indie surf rock group hailing from Dallas, TX since 2013. Founded by the dynamic duo, Dylan Bare and Trevor Yokochi, this band has evolved into a captivating ensemble. Yokochi Bare's music beautifully blends surf rock roots with synth pop, crafting timeless and nostalgic sounds that pay homage to the influential bands of the 1950s and 1960s. Their lineup features bassist Clint Kruse and drummer Cameron Mills, joining the talents of vocalists/guitarists Dylan Bare and Trevor Yokochi.
Yokochi Bare’s lyrics across their album draw heavily from the dreamy, emotional depth of shoegaze, indie rock, and vintage surf pop. There's a strong influence from early rock in the way love and longing are expressed with a timeless simplicity, while the introspective and poetic melancholy of shoegaze and synthpop shape the more atmospheric and hazy tracks. At the heart of their music is a strong thread of storytelling, a balance of romanticism with a sense of existential wandering. The importance of narrative in their lyrics, combined with nostalgia, youthful passion, and a deep-seated longing for connection, create a soundscape that feels both intimate and cinematic.

I am the son of Filipino immigrants who raised me in the NOVA / DC area for the first half of my life. My mother was a librarian at Gallaudet University, and my father was an electrical engineer for the Metro transit system after serving the Navy for two decades. I grew up surrounded by tales of perseverance, resilience, and hope. This inspired me to explore music for its ability to connect people to stories of the human experience. I hope the artistry I share allows audiences to resonate with the stories that move through them.
Gabrielle Ferrari
Gabrielle Ferrari, soprano.
To say that words and music changed my life is something of an understatement; words and music have become my life. I am a musicologist and music critic, a writer and a singer. None of these careers would have been possible for me had I not been an English major. Literary studies, with its constant drive to get closer to texts and to find out how and why they work, have oriented my mind and framed the questions that drive my scholarship and my public writing, even when literature is not my subject. Rick Bozorth taught me how to write with liveliness and bravery, Bonnie Wheeler how to reach back into history and still find people I recognized, Willard Spiegelman and Greg Brownderville how to love poetry (and write it) with precision as well as passion. These are the skills that materially support me as a scholar, but have also enriched my life in music.
