David Hale Smith
Literary agent David Hale Smith runs the Texas office of InkWell Management LLC. He is looking to represent mind-blowing commercial fiction, literary fiction and compelling commercial nonfiction. Prior to joining the InkWell team in 2011, he operated the eponymous literary agency he opened in 1994, just a few years after graduating from Kenyon College as an English major. His fiction list includes thriller authors Ania Ahlborn, Taylor Adams, Matthew Fitzsimmons, Gary Phillips (writer for FX series Snowfall) and The New York Times Bestselling novelists Greg Rucka (creator of ABC's Stumptown, and the #1 Netflix hit movie The Old Guard, starring Charlize Theron) and Blake Crouch, author of the genre-benders UPGRADE, Dark Matter and the multi-million selling Wayward Pines trilogy (adapted into the FOX television show). In nonfiction, Smith represents Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, co-authors of the classic health book, Intuitive Eating; James Beard Award-winners Jordan Mackay and Rajat Parr; Texas Monthly BBQ Editor Daniel Vaughn,Top Chef stars John Tesar and Isaac Toups; and The New York Times Bestsellers Skip Hollandsworth, and barbecue superstar Aaron Franklin. Smith enjoys developing projects from concept to finished book, and is very active in selling film and television rights and original concepts for his clients. He lives in Dallas, Texas.
